Dear Mr Kurten,

Re: Cyprus Eurovision national final 12/01/2008

We would like to draw your attention to the following facts that took place during the Eurovision national final which was organized by Cy BC, which have seriously affected the Televoting results:

1. During the presentation of the of how the contestants will be voted CyBC announced the televoting numbers 900390XX.

2. CyBC did not announce that the televoting can be done only by CYTA’s telecommunications system stationary or mobile.

3. CyBC bought the services of this particular number from CYTA.

4. During the 15 minutes of the televoting it came apparent that the owners of stationary or mobile CYTA phone numbers could vote repeatedly without any problem.

5. The owners of stationary or mobile phone numbers from private companies i.e. MTN, Cablenet, PrimeTel and So-easy were unable to vote because they were blogged by CYTA.

6. The next day hundreds of telephones carried out to CyBC telephone 00357 22 862416 for complaints. CyBC reply was that is not their fault they did not manage to vote.

7. Contacting MTN we were told that CYTA did not notify them to open their lines during the period of televoting.

8. The same applied for the other private telecommunication companies.

9. Due to the above blogging many thousand owners of these phones were unable to participate in the Eurovision televoting.

10. Especially the thousand customers of MTN are young fans of Eurovision due to the fact that they enjoy special low rate packages.

11. The Commissioner of Telecommunications and Postal regulations Mr Vassos Pyrgos E-mail: vassos.pyrgos@ocecpr.org.cy , has been informed in writing about this illegal action.

12. The Office of the Commissioner, Helioupoleos 12, 1101 Nicosia, Tel. 003572269300, is conducting an investigation on these serious matter and will revert as soon as possible.

13. A sample of phone owners who were unable to vote is attached for your perusal and verification

We consider that the result of the televoting which was organized by CyBC in cooperation with CYTA, does not represent the real democratic election of the song from the Cyprus people.

Therefore we request you to investigate these serious matter and either repeat the televoting or cancel the televoting results.
